Sharps Disposal

The Joint Commission standards require that organizations conduct a comprehensive risk assessment to determine the potential adverse impact of equipment, supplies and other factors on the safety and health of patients, staff, and others. Many chronically ill patients are using needles, syringes, and lancets.  This 1-page infosheet explains what sharps are and different ways to dispose of them easily. It gives options such as drop boxes, collection sites or mail-back programs.  It describes how to use a plastic container if none of these are an option.
